How it works
Large money leaves a wake. We trace it back to the source.
- Step 1 · Spot
Every print, every pending transfer
We listen to recent trades on Coinbase for BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP, and to unconfirmed Bitcoin transactions as they reach the mempool.
- Step 2 · Score
Measured against the crowd
Each trade is compared with the median print in its window, so a $50K order in a quiet market stands out. A log-scale whale score keeps sizes comparable across assets.
- Step 3 · Show
Evidence, not hunches
Every sighting opens a source trace: trade ID, taker side, tx hash, fee rate and a direct link to verify it yourself on the original venue.
The terminal
One screen. Stream, chart, flow and proof.

- Whale stream
- Filter by exchange or on-chain, set a minimum notional, search by asset, tx hash or trade ID.
- Price context
- Coinbase candles with session VWAP and a marker at the exact minute each whale surfaced.
- Whale flow
- Net aggressor buying versus selling per asset, so you can see which way the big fins lean.
- Event evidence
- Value, USD estimate, inputs and outputs, fee rate and a one-click link to verify at the source.

FAQ
Questions from the observation deck
What counts as a whale?
For exchange trades, a print that is many times larger than the median trade in the same window. For Bitcoin, a pending transaction whose outputs total a large USD value. Every sighting carries a whale score so you can compare sizes across assets.
Where does the data come from?
Trade prints and candles come from the public Coinbase Exchange API. Unconfirmed Bitcoin transactions come from Blockchain.com. We link every sighting back to its source so you can verify it.
Can an on-chain transfer be misleading?
Yes. Output totals include change returned to the sender, so the amount actually moving between parties may be lower. The evidence panel calls this out on every on-chain sighting.
Do I need to connect a wallet or create an account?
No. The terminal is free and read-only. We never ask for keys, seed phrases or wallet connections.
Is this trading advice?
No. Blackfin Compass surfaces public market data. Large movements can be internal transfers, hedges or rebalancing. Treat sightings as context, not signals to buy or sell.
